The fourth annual Celebration of Women and Their Music is scheduled for Saturday, February 24, 2001, at 7:30 PM at the historic Fargo Theatre in downtown Fargo, ND, featuring Claudia Schmidt. A folk singer and guitarist from Beaver Island, Michigan, Schmidt gained national attention as a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion." Schmidt, who draws on a variety of musical styles such as traditional balladry, tin pan alley, blues and jazz,
performs songs and tells stories about life in the Midwest.

The Celebration of Women and their Music is the brainchild of Deborah J. Jenkins, Fargo, renowned blues singer, chef and caterer. The show features regional women performing a variety of musical genres from jazz to folk to classical. The first half will showcase new artists who haven't been involved in the program before, supported by returning artists in a tribute to Patsy Cline.

The following women are scheduled to perform:

Claudia Schmidt will perform the second half of the program.

The money raised at this event goes into a scholarship endowment fund established with the F-M Area Foundation, which will be awarded to a local high school female artist this year. Out of seventeen very talented applicants, this year's winner is Lindsay Staber of Moorhead Senior High, a Visual Arts Photography student. The Scholarship award will be presented at the start of the second set before Claudia's performance.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, and will be for sale starting January 22 at The Full Circle Café, Zandbroz Variety, Kokopelli's, Boerth's Frame and Mirror and the Fargo Theatre. Reserved seating tickets are $20 and must be purchased at the Fargo Theatre Box Office.
